A pleasantly small old fashionedl hotel. My room was fine with lots of storage and a great view of a nearby hillside. An electric heater kept me warm and though the electric towel rail wasn't working, the temperature in the bathroom was okay. A bath was nice after two long walks on the South Tyne Trail and there was always plenty of hot water. The staff were friendly and the food was great and exceptionally good value. If you are staying at the hotel, then I would advise eating there. It might be your only option as although Alston appears to have several potential places to eat, none were serving meals on an evening. I was told that this had been the case all winter.

had a wonderful at at The Cumberland Hotel, superb staff, so friendly and welcoming, breakfast is exceptional, all locally produced, cooked beautiful and fresh. Evening meals are cooked to order to the highest standard, the portions are fit for a King. The best ale is the Maxim. The rooms are as you would expect from an establishment of a much higher price. spacious, clean with everything you require. I stayed for two nights while working in the area, the scenery is spectacular and breath taking, it feels like you are on top of the world looking down on everything else. I would hope to be retuning to the area in the future and this is where I'll be staying.

The room was spacious with a wonderful view of the hills and meadow. There was an added chair and workspace that made my four-night stay more comfortable. The hot breakfasts were cooked individually for each person with choices of help-yourself cereals and juices. I really enjoyed having the restaurant where I could eat dinner during my stay. The food was delicious and plentiful. The hosts were hospitable and very helpful with making arrangements for a taxi to take me to another village.

Great view, massive bedroom it was enormous and the king size bed was so soft it felt like sleeping on a cloud. Tea and coffee facilities were excellent, we had a cup of tea in the morning but forgot to eat the cookies 😞No doubt they were lovely too. The towels were big, white and very soft, there was body wash in the on suite. The landlord was joyful and nice and the breakfast was so yummy 😋 The cook was lovely and very good at her job and nothing was too much for her, a diamond 💎

Friendly and helpful staff and a really great pub. Good beer, good atmosphere, good food. You can (and should) pre-order breakfast the night before which speeds up the process for everyone involved and is particularly helpful if you want to head straight off! Pack-up lunches are available on request and again, you can order what you want the evening before.
